Abstract
This paper was prepared around 1966 for circulation among the De La Salle Christian Brothers of the former New York District. It captures a bit of the thinking of the Brothers in one of the bigger Districts of the Institute immediately after the Second Vatican Council, provides a bit of the history of the Lasallian mission in the Archdiocese of New York, and raises concerns about “pressing problems” that needed to be addressed

The authors of this paper were a group of Brothers of Manhattan College, who lived in the community on the fourth and fifth floors above the Manhattan College Quadrangle and refer to themselves as the “Fifth Floor Realists, Inc.”
