Lasallian Educational Leadership in the Twenty-First Century

ABSTRACT

These remarks were delivered on March 2, 2007 in San Antonio, Texas, at the conclusion of the Annual Conference of Lasallian Secondary School Chief Administrators (LASSCA) by Brother William Mann, FSC.

Brother William draws upon five metaphors from the Meditations for the Time of Retreat of John Baptist de La Salle – actually they’re biblical images – as the backdrop of his remarks. These Lasallian images will provide a structure for some ideas about the “mission-ary” role of educators and administrators, which Brother William believe is appropriate, since this Conference, in some ways, has fundamental similarities of purpose with the annual retreats of the early Brothers during the time of the Founder. This annual gathering affords participants some time to remember why they do what they do, some time to renew their commitment to the Lasallian mission which they believe to be God’s holy work, and some time to recommit their best selves and their good energies working, together and by association as part of the global Lasallian network, for the benefit of the young people and the families they serve.
