Robert Schieler, FSC, Ed.D.

ABSTRACT

Brother Robert Schieler, FSC, Ed.D., General Councilor, Lasallian Region of North America (RELAN), delivered this keynote address at the inaugural Symposium on Lasallian Research, Institute for Lasallian Studies at Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, Minnesota, October 28, 2012. His remarks situate the deliberations of symposium participants in the context of established priorities of the Institute of the Brothers of the Christian Schools. After orienting the assembled scholars to the work of the 2006 International Mission Assembly and the 44th General Chapter (2007), Brother Robert invited productive engagement toward the purpose of the symposium, “to break open the possibilities of Lasallian Research in twenty-first-century North America.”

Brother Robert Schieler, FSC, EdD, was elected Superior General of the De La Salle Christian Brothers in 2014. Previously, he served for seven years as General Councilor for the Lasallian Region of North America (RELAN). The Philadelphia native is a graduate of La Salle College (now University) in Philadelphia, PA, and holds masters’ degrees in European History (Notre Dame) and Asian Studies (University of Philippines) as well as a doctorate in Educational Administration (University of Pennsylvania).
