Michel Sauvage, FSC, Miguel Campos and FSC
ABSTRACT
In 1981, an English translation of Michel Sauvage’s and Miguel Campos’ Annoncer l’évangile aux pauvres (1977) was translated by Matthew J. O’Connell and published by Christian Brothers Conference, Romeoville, Illinois, USA. The second and the third chapters of Part One of the original (pages 71-241) were unfortunately left untranslated and therefore not included in the publication. These two missing chapters (which would have been found after page 41 in the English text), were translated and prepared for use in the study of Lasallian Spirituality at the Buttimer Institute of Lasallian Studies in the summer of 1999. The original 17th-century texts of De La Salle were written for a group of Brother teachers working with young boys, and this is the story and these are the writings being analyzed by Sauvage and Campos and presented in this publication. However, the wisdom found in these texts has been judged to transcend their original context and so continues to inspire countless men and women in our day in their work with students of all ages, young and adult alike.

Michel Sauvage, FSC, S.T.D.
Brother Michel Sauvage, FSC (1923-2001) did his doctoral thesis in Lille (Catéchèse et Laïcat, 1963), was a professor at the Lateran Pontifical University in Rome (Jesus Magister Institute), and was theologian for his brother (Bishop Jean Sauvage) at the Second Vatican Council. From 1966 to 1976, he was Assistant Superior General for Formation of the Brothers of the Christian Schools. In addition, he served as the second director of the office of Lasallian Studies in the Generalate in Rome.
Rabenalisoa Ravalitera, Jean
Raharilalao, Hilaire
Jean Rabenalisoa Ravalitera, who is a lecturer-researcher at the University of Antananarivo, is a full member of the Malagasy Academy. He received his doctor of humane letters degree from Université d’Antananarivo in Madagascar.
Brother Hilaire Raharilalao, who is the vice-postulator of the cause of Brother Raphaël-Louis Rafiringa, is a full member of the Malagasy Academy. He received his doctor of biblical theology degree from Université de l’Afrique de l’Ouest in the Ivory Coast.
