Lasallian Catechetics and the Heart

ABSTRACT

The Institute of the Brothers of the Christian Schools originated in seventeenth-century France to provide a human and Christian education for the children of artisans and the poor. This article traces several exemplars of the adaptive nature of the Lasallian educational mission in the United States during the late twentieth and early twenty-first-centuries. The pluralist, multi-religious contexts in which Lasallian educators and students find themselves provides powerful opportunities to bring faith and reason to bear on the religious, moral and social issues they encounter in everyday life. Lasallian pedagogical and formation resources provide necessary and effective preparation to educators who in turn are able to to guide diverse learners in cultivating hopeful, inclusive communities engaged with the problems of the twenty-first century.
