Focus and Scope

AXIS: Journal of Lasallian Higher Education exists to encourage and share original scholarly and creative works about, and texts of historic significance to, Lasallian Catholic higher education. AXIS disseminates these works of significance to the Lasallian family in four categories:

  1. original scholarly and creative works
  2. a shared knowledge archive of unpublished speeches and papers authored by leaders in the Lasallian movement, typically published with guest-authored contextualizing essays
  3. annotations of relevant books / doctoral dissertations, and
  4. selective bibliographies or a single theme series of essays relevant to Lasallian Catholic higher education.

SECTION I: ORIGINAL SCHOLARLY AND CREATIVE WORKS

AXIS presents here peer-reviewed, original scholarly and creative works relevant to Lasallian Catholic higher education.

SECTION II: SHARED KNOWLEDGE ARCHIVE

AXIS presents here previously unpublished talks and presentations that illustrate significant moments in the Lasallian movement. Many of these selections were created prior to the development of Lasallian higher education, and may be published with commentary from guest authors whose expertise can help frame the relevance of the work for Lasallian Catholic higher education.

SECTION III: ANNOTATIONS OF DISTINCTIVE WORKS IN LASALLIAN HIGHER EDUCATION

AXIS presents here annotations of substantive scholarly works which are not seminal in nature but none the less make important contributions to the body of academic work on themes relevant to Lasallian Catholic higher education. Selections are submitted directly by authors or are identified from regular screening of thesis and dissertation registration services.

SECTION IV: SELECTED BIBLIOGRAPHIES OR SINGLE THEME SERIES OF ESSAYS

AXIS presents here invitations to dialogue in the form of selective bibliographies and single theme series of essays illuminating many aspects of Lasallian Catholic higher education.

Peer Review Process

All submissions to AXIS Sections I and II are peer-reviewed using a double-blind process (author and reviewer identities are not disclosed to each other). Reviewers are not compensated. Each submission is reviewed by at least two reviewers, one of whom is a member of the Editorial Board. Every effort is made to provide reviewers from institutions other than the author’s. See guidelines for Authors and Reviewers.

Authors receive written confirmation of submission, and of the publicaiton decision within two months of submission. Ratings and comments are aggregated by an AXIS Associate Editor and then forwarded to the author, with specific notice that the submission is accepted or declined for publication.

The Editorial Board is committed to sustaining a diverse body of reviewers who collaborate with authors to disseminate new work, and also with the Editor to ensure that the published scholarly and creative works meet the highest standards of quality.

Publication Frequency

AXIS will publish two collections annually, June and December. Each year’s publications will constitute a volume, and each volume will have two issue numbers. Editors reserve the right to occasionally restrict an issue to a coherent theme that reflects and serves the shared educational mission in Lasallian Catholic higher education. Submissions are accepted and reviewed on an ongoing basis.

Open Access Policy

AXIS: Journal of Lasallian Higher Education provides immediate open access to its content on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge – a position consistent with AXIS’ mission to invite scholarly discourse about Lasallian Catholic higher education among diverse constituencies.
