Abstract
This article explores the distinctive character of Lasallian spirituality as rooted in the life and writings of Saint John Baptist de La Salle and expressed through an educational mission. It emphasizes three foundational dimensions: the spirit of faith, the spirit of community, and the spirit of zeal, which together unite personal relationship with God and active service to others. Unlike purely contemplative traditions, Lasallian spirituality is practical and apostolic, lived through daily educational work, especially among the poor. It highlights a shared mission carried out “together and by association,” inviting educators of diverse backgrounds to embody compassion, gratuity, and transformative presence.

About the Author
The late Brother Gerard Rummery, FSC, (1931-2024) earned his doctorate from Lancaster University. He served two periods on the staff of the International Lasallian Center (CIL) in Rome, was twice elected to the General Council of the De La Salle Christian Brothers (1986-1993 and 1993-2000), and acted as the contact Brother with the Brothers in Hungary, Romania, the Czech Republic, and Slovakia. He was a researcher and longtime international presenter on Lasallian history, pedagogy, and spirituality. His career was marked by his dedication to modernizing Lasallian education and challenging traditional approaches.
