Brother John Johnston, FSC

Abstract

This article examines the renewal of Lasallian education grounded in the spirituality of Saint John Baptist de La Salle. Authentic Lasallian schools foster faith-filled communities committed to excellence, justice, and service to the poor. Central to this identity is prayer—a personal encounter with God that sustains the spirit of faith and animates ministry. Drawing on De La Salle’s teaching, four orientations emerge: regular personal prayer, meditation on Scripture, daily encounter with the Lord, and integration of life experiences into prayer. Prayer, for De La Salle, is foundational to zeal and essential for obtaining grace and touching hearts.
