Brother Joseph F. Schmidt, FSC

Abstract

This article explores Saint John Baptist de La Salle’s Explanation of the Method of Interior Prayer, emphasizing the practice of simple attention as a profound expression of Lasallian spirituality. Initially framed within a structured method, simple attention transcends technique, inviting silent, faith-filled presence before God. This prayer fosters a gentle attractive force—adherence to God and detachment from self—flowing into daily life as the spirit of faith. Rather than relying on strategies or resolutions, transformation occurs through grace, animating virtue and apostolic mission. The paper highlights simple attention as central to integrating prayer and action in Lasallian tradition.
