Abstract

Brother Raymond Brisebois’ manuscript, introduced here, offers a profound examination of Lasallian spirituality, utilizing John Baptist de La Salle’s works and the Letter to the Hebrews as a rich theological backdrop. Originally written in French and unpublished since Br. Raymond’s passing in 1996, the text is now being made available in English to coincide with the 2025 Lasallian spiritual focus. Br. Raymond adopts a unique approach by presenting De La Salle’s voice speaking intimately to Jesus, aligning with De La Salle’s emphasis on fostering deep, prayerful communion with God.

The manuscript explores several key aspects: the precarious lives of early Brother teachers and De La Salle’s relentless efforts to spiritually and morally uplift them, the integration of scripture as a living, faith-rooted guide, and the challenges inherent in translating Br. Raymond’s work. The manuscript emphasizes the Letter to the Hebrews, described as a revitalizing call to Christian perseverance and renewal. Additionally, the editorial process has adapted the manuscript to accommodate English readers.

By blending historical, scriptural, and spiritual insights, this manuscript serves as an invitation to deeper communion with God and engagement with Lasallian spirituality, honoring the Founder’s legacy while offering a fresh perspective on faith, teaching, and spiritual growth.
