ABSTRACT
This paper gives some background on the higher education sector in Palestine. It then moves to discuss the challenges faced by this sector, afterwards it discusses specific challenges that are unique to Bethlehem University. Bethlehem University of the Holy Land is a Catholic Christian co-educational institution of higher learning founded in 1973 in the Lasallian tradition, open to students of all faith and traditions. As an institution of higher education in Palestine, Bethlehem University shares with the rest of the Palestinian universities some common difficulties and challenges. Moreover, being the only Christian institution of higher education in Palestine it has its own unique challenges.

Muna Matar, PhD, is the Assistant Vice President for Academic Affairs at Bethlehem University in Palestine since Sept 2013. She holds a PhD in Information Technology from the Department of Information Technology at Ghent University, Belgium. After obtaining her degree she worked for almost two years at the Institute for Continuing Education at Ghent University where she was responsible for setting up an e-Learning platform for the institute. In September 2003, she joined the Department of Computer Information Systems at Bethlehem University. In August 2009, she was appointed the Chair of the Department.
